Mr. Peabody Falls Through Another Trap Door

No, I don't mean the brainiac dog from the old Bullwinkle cartoons, but Dan Rather, the Bushophobic propagandist who tried and failed to smear President Bush out of the White House last fall, and the latest recipient of the no-longer-prestigious Peabody award for his (and Mary Mapes') attempt to defeat the United States in the GWOT through the despicable hyping of the Abu Ghraib episode.

Well, as the good book says, "The LORD blesseth, and the LORD taketh away."

Or, in this case, Les Moonves.

CBS said Wednesday it is cancelling the Wednesday edition of 60 Minutes, insisting the decision was made because of poor ratings and not last fall's ill-fated story about President Bush's military service.

"This was a ratings call, not a content call," Moonves said Wednesday.

Uh-huh. Kind of like replacing a flat tire and then telling the cashier, "This was an air call, not a nail call."

But don't feel bad for Our Man Dan. I'm sure this latest humiliation isn't anything his vast repository of "courage" can't handle.
