Sheehan's Dozens

Well, it appears from a rudimentary Google search that "grieving soldier's mother" Cindy Sheehan, if she wasn't a virulent, obnoxious pacifist before meeting with President Bush a year ago, has certainly parlayed her assumed "victim" status into at least a major far-left hobby.

Okay, maybe not so major:

The mother of a fallen U.S. soldier who started a quiet roadside peace vigil near President Bush's ranch last weekend is drawing supporters from across the nation.

Sounds impressive at first glance, doesn't it?

Now you're about to hear...the rest of the story....

Dozens of people have joined her, and others have sent flowers and food.

Dozens? Half the country purportedly hates George W. Bush's guts, and all that crowd can muster is "dozens"? Even hundreds wouldn't be all that impressive, but this is pathetic.

Didn't douse their penchant for rhetorical overselling, though:

One activist called her "the Rosa Parks of the anti-war movement."
Every black American should be outraged by that comment. Rosa Parks wasn't an "activist" or agitator; she was an ordinary person "of color" who decided that she was no longer going to suffer being treated as a second-class citizen. Cindy Sheehan is an ignorant seditionist who is demanding that the President come to her so she can verbally (and perhaps literally) piss in his face for the network news cameras, demanding that we stop fighting the terrorists overseas so they can ride right back into the homeland and resume massacring American civilians, and desecrating the sacrifice of her GI son by using his memory as an anti-war prop.

But boy if she isn't enjoying her fifteen minutes of fame - or trying to, anyway:

Cindy Sheehan, 48, of Vacaville, California, says she was surprised at the response.

Disappointed, more likely.

"Before my son was killed, I used to think that one person could not make a difference," she said Wednesday under a tent where she has slept since Saturday. "But one person that is surrounded and supported by millions of people can be heard."

Lady, your son made more of a difference than you ever will, which is another way of saying that you'll never cancel his out.

I was profoundly disheartened to read this next graf:

On Saturday, two high-level Bush Administration officials, the national security adviser and deputy White House chief of staff, talked to Sheehan for about 20 minutes. Sheehan called the brief meeting "pointless" and still wants to talk to the President.

They shouldn't be sending out the lowest-ranking hired ranchhand to give this ghoul the time of day. Dubya already met with her, and she has since flagrantly lied about what he said and how he conducted himself at said meeting. He doesn't owe her a blessed thing except to ignore her until she gives up and goes home.

Blow her off, Mr. President. You survived a full-throated, heavily-financed two-year assault from the worst the other side had to throw at you; please don't acknowledge the existence of this piece of debris twirling in the wake of that kerfuffle, lest you suffer the public relations version of what happened to her son.

UPDATE: Sheehan appears to be an island even within her own family:

The following email was received by the DRUDGE REPORT from Cherie Quarterolo, Casey's aunt and godmother:

Our family has been so distressed by the recent activities of Cindy we are breaking our silence and we have collectively written a statement for release. Feel free to distribute it as you wish. Thanks Ð Cherie

In response to questions regarding the Cindy Sheehan/Crawford Texas issue: Sheehan Family Statement:

The Sheehan Family lost our beloved Casey in the Iraq War and we have been silently, respectfully grieving. We do not agree with the political motivations and publicity tactics of Cindy Sheehan. She now appears to be promoting her own personal agenda and notoriety at the the expense of her son's good name and reputation. The rest of the Sheehan Family supports the troops, our country, and our President, silently, with prayer and respect.

Sincerely,

Casey Sheehan's grandparents, aunts, uncles and numerous cousins.

One could almost observe that Casey Sheehan is more valuable to his mother as an involuntary martyr to her misbegotten cause than were he still drawing breath.

Don't like that observation? She's the one who wants to personally berate the President for "killing" her son. If Casey still lived, she'd have no marketable pretext for such disgusting rabblerousing.

Casey Sheehan more than earned the right to rest in peace. It's a shame that his mom won't allow it.
