Jaw-Droppingly Stupid

Absolutely great column by Neal Boortz regarding the state of public education today. I couldn't help but giggle reading it, though the subject matter really is serious, and Boortz is absolutely right about it. Here is a snippet:

I was listening to my pal Sean Hannity do an "I hate Hannity" segment on his show last Thursday. Several callers began slamming Hannity on, believe it or not, the Wal-Mart issue. They just couldn't believe that Sean wasn't joining them in their hatred of Wal-Mart. It was clear, of course, that these were uneducated, union-oriented people. They would come up with lines like "Well, if the unions aren't for the workers, who will be?" Duh ... how about exercising that responsibility for yourself! At any rate, one caller really caught my attention. He started out with this "Republicans are for big business and rich people" nonsense. Then somehow he got into the subject of income taxes. Everybody knows, he said, that rich people don't pay income taxes. Sean reminded him that the top 10% of income earners in this country pay about 70% of all personal income taxes collected by the federal government. The caller said "That's only on paper. They have all these write-offs so they really don't pay anything."

Think about it. How many times have YOU heard this nonsense coming from a liberals' mouth? I mean just everyday people, not their leaders. The lack of motivation to find out the facts for themselves really is amazing. How many times have you talked to a liberal who can spew those talking points on cue, but never back them up with example or fact? Pin them down with the truth, and they will just smile and shake their head as if you are the dumbest person in the world and they feel SO sorry for you, and move on to something else. Exasperating, really. My boss told me the other day that he thought our mail volume was down because the economy is so bad and people just can't afford to mail things, buy things from catalogs, etc. I couldn't believe it. I told him how the economy REALLY is doing, and he didn't know what to say. He repeated what he's heard in the mainstream press and actually believed it, completely oblivious to the truth. At least he will listen when given the opportunity to learn something...which tells me he's probably not a liberal, just uninformed.
