Pre-Empted

"Captain, message coming in from Commodore Wesley."

"Put it on-screen, Lieutenant."

The image showed Wesley sitting in a command chair. He said, "F.S.S. Enterprise from starships Lexington and Excalibur. Both ships eport simulated hits in sufficient quantity and location to justify awarding the surprise engagement to Enterprise. Congratulations."

Kirk spoke to Uhura. "Secure from General Quarters."

Again, she reached for the switch. And again the alarm had been silenced. She looked at Kirk, shrugging.

But the image on the screen was continuing. "Our compliments to the M-5 unit - and regards to Captain Dunsel. Wesley out."

McCoy exploded. "Dunsel? Who the blazes is Captain Dunsel? What's it mean, Jim?"

But Kirk had already left for the turbolift. McCoy whirled to Spock. "Well?" demanded McCoy, "Who's Dunsel?"

"A 'dunsel,' Doctor, is a word used by midshipmen at Starfleet Academy. It refers to a part which serves no useful purpose."

"You're a born clerk!"

Did you ever have one of those dreams where you had to take a test that you hadn't studied for? And the reason you hadn't studied for it is because the teacher didn't bother to tell you that the test would cover a different chapter than the one s/he told you it would?

Have you ever been set to give an oral presentation and just as you began, somebody whipped out a sheaf of different material, passed it out, and basically hijacked everything you had spent days preparing? Essentially wasting all the time and effort you put into those preparations?

I'm going to be doing some heavy-duty re-evaluation of some things. But this blog isn't one of them - provided I can scrape together enough time to continue posting regularly, which is becoming a major problem anymore, as other life areas are throwing my life into serious imbalance.

One thing is certain: there's no way on Earth that I can maintain the status quo of today and the past few days. Something's got to change (or, really, change back), or I may sustain "wounds" that not even time can heal.

Or this may be a fit of transitory self-pity.

Guess y'all will have to keep surfing by to find out which, huh?

Just like me....
