I don't know what your situation is, but gasoline went UP here 12 cents from 0600 to noon! It has gone up around 45 cents this past week and, personally, I think $5/gal is a DEFINITE probability!
Here is what drives me nuts: all this talk about "addicted to oil"; "we are running OUT of oil world-wide", etc, etc.
This is all bull!
Look:
1) the USA hasn't BUILT a refinery in 27 years!!
2) The MBTE has now, by law, been eliminated and we have to go to ethanol (watch engine problems!!) But, ethanol doesn't mix with water and will ruin the fuel, so ALL tanks and lines have to be purged. Cost: millions!
3) I do not know when we last drilled for oil in the USA.
4) ANWAR sits there basically idle.
5) The oil shale in UT / WY / CO (recoverable at $30/bbl) lies unused and there is an estimated 1.25 TRILLION bbls there!
6) The tar sands in Canada (recoverable at less that $20/bbl) lies untapped and there is an estimated 1.5 Trillion bbls!
7) New technology has come available that will allow oil companies to recover an estimated 800 Billion bbls in the Permian Basin!
8) No one knows how many bbls are available off shore.
9) A recent oil find in Central UT has just been discovered BUT may not be able to be touched because much of it lies on Federal Land.
Now, what it the ONE thing all these points have in common: right! Enviromental laws have locked up out treasury for, at best, selfish, immature, and specious reasons. This cry for the environment is ridiculous! There is NO oil company that is going to risk money when the enviro's will shove them into court and cost millions in a losing cause.
So, what is the solution: remove ALL environmental laws and they review the current needs for any actual environmental laws. Of course, the liberals are going to howl They make money off these laws! And many, if not most of them, don't have to drive 50 miles to work one-way as do MANY middle-class Americans, especially in the West.
Riding bicycles to work is impossible. Walking as well. Public transportation is unavailable and would take Billions to develop and take years, if not decades! So-called "alternate energy sources" are years off!
So, why NOT use our known and available resources while, at the same time developing "alternate sources"? Indeed, why not? I'll tell you why: liberals are naieve and are focused on destroying the automobile. They want to force Americans into a European-type life style of socialism. Of course, THEY won't be bound by this and will continue to drive their SUVs, but the middle-class is being killed. One good thing: if these foolish, anti-American policies continue and the Republic we have known is lost. then the liberals will have their socialism, anarchy will reign, and maybe they will then get to wear the blue burkha they seem to thirst after.
