Another Simple Question

This time from Jed Babbin:

Question for the President: after five years of inaction on illegal immigration, after going to the UN on Iran, after allowing our intelligence agencies to continue to decay, after indulging in mind-boggling amounts of pork barrel spending, why should any conservatives respond favorably to yet more promises that aren't accompanied by decisive action?

There isn't any simple answer to that query. At least not any that would be of any help to this mouldering White House.

Or maybe there is, in the form of another question: After five years of "reaching out" to Democrats (and getting battered mercilessly for his trouble), what would be so wrong with reaching out to Republicans in the same fashion? Particularly since the lack of same is drawing him the withering "friendly fire" that has his presidency disintegrating like Walter Donovan drinking from the wrong Grail?

For George W. Bush, the fumes of 9/11 have run out. It's time for him to rediscover his mission before his drift toward lame-duckery (or worse) becomes irreversible.

UPDATE: That may already be too late - just look at this:

Taiwan's President Chen Shui-bian stopped by Libya on his way home from a visit to Latin America. He continued on to Indonesia before returning home. The U.S., in contrast, refused to allow him to even stay overnight on American soil.

The Bush Administration is starting to act a lot like the Clinton administration. [emphasis added]

If only Doug Bandow was referring to political savvy and passion....
