Double Standards - What A Surprise
I hadn't heard about Joy Behar's latest brilliance until I read Mike Gallagher's column over at Townhall.com.
Joy Behar, one of the hosts of ABC-TV’s The View, announces that she’s delighted that Vice-President Cheney is “in trouble” and that his recent health scare, a potentially life-threatening blood clot in his leg, is due to his “lying.”
The studio audience cheers.
HBO’s Bill Maher, who was relegated to cable after being canned from ABC for praising the 9/11 hijackers as brave (and our military as cowardly), attempts to make the case that the world would be a better place had assassins successfully murdered Mr. Cheney in Afghanistan.
Nobody seems to mind.
Yep. But look at the reaction Ann Coulter got, as Gallagher points out further down in the column.
Did you ever stop and wonder what some of these vicious, angry, bitter, mean-spirited liberals are like in real life?
I have no doubt they pretend to be wonderful, caring, tolerant people. Their words certainly put the lie to that. These people are awful.
On a purely personal level, I doubt that Joy Behar or Bill Maher have ever spent any one-on-one time with President Bush or Vice-President Cheney. I’ve been fortunate to do so, and it’s pretty obvious that these are decent, caring, compassionate men who want what’s best for the United States. After my nearly two-hour meeting with the President in the Oval Office, I walked away convinced that he spends practically every waking moment of his day trying to keep us safe from another terrorist attack. Cheney has spent a lifetime of distinguished public service to his country.
Doesn't matter. Their ability to hate defies any plausible explanation. Read the Huffington Post, Democratic Underground, or DailyKos and you'll get a taste of just how ugly these people are.
JASmius adds: They're ugly because they're moral supremacists. They believe themselves to be inherently virtuous, better than the rest of us, and any who disagree with them are inherently evil and must be destroyed.
Indeed, contemporary liberals have become precisely what they accuse evangelical Christians of being: intolerant, hateful, bigoted, dangerous, delusional (i.e. evolution dogma, the global warming crusade), self-righteous pricks who are a threat to our very way of life. That they are also shallow, superficial and cowardly are the only things preventing our politicocultural civil war from becoming literal.
Small wonder they sympathize so much with the Islamists, huh?
