Another Unforced Retreat

....by the Democrats:

President Bush and congressional leaders began negotiating a second war funding bill yesterday, with Democrats offering the first major concession: an agreement to drop their demand for a timeline to bring troops home from Iraq.

Wow. It hasn't even been twenty-four hours since Speakerette Pelosi and Majority Chisler Reid were self-righteously denouncing President Bush for "defying the will of the American people" by vetoing their greased-up surrender bill. Either they got a loud taste of what the will of the American people really is, or, more likely, their nerve precipitously collapsed. The nutroots will not be pleased.

Still, the treacherous pair did hold onto their focus-grouped catch phrase:

"We made our position clear. He made his position clear. Now it is time for us to try to work together," House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (CA) said after a White House meeting. "But make no mistake: Democrats are committed to ending this war."

By which she means losing it. We know that the President is committed to not losing it, but it remains to be seen whether he's committed to victory, given the additional military campaigns that outcome will require.

In the meantime, this petition is still a useful item to use like a baseball bat upside the heads of your congresscritter and senators, if only in the "Hey, at least I tried" sense.
