Mary Cheney Has A Boy
I dunno...I don't care whose daughter she is, it's tough to be happy about this:
Mary Cheney gave birth yesterday to perhaps the most anticipated baby in contemporary U.S. politics - her first child, Samuel David Cheney, whom she will raise with her longtime partner, Heather Poe .
Of course, the child itself is a wonderful blessing and I'm sure will bring happiness to the "parents" and grandparents. It's the situation I can't be thrilled about. Don't tell me that won't be one confused kid when he's old enough to realize that all of his friends have a mommy and daddy and he has two mommies. That just ain't right, and no amount of posturing and indignant reaction will change that. Ever.
JASmius adds: Oh, now Jen, that isn't really fair. Li'l Sammy has a daddy; it's a biological prerequisite. He just will probably never know who his daddy is, and (hopefully) will never understand why his mommy chose to cavort with that floozy "Aunt Heather" instead. Kind of like a friend who came over for tea and cookies and never left.
One thing seems certain - it'll make holidays at the undisclosed Cheney family compound even more "interesting" than they have been already.
