Hello, Suckers

From my e-friend George Merideth:

~ ~ ~

I know some people have a hard time accepting the plain cold fact that the ‘mainstream’ media, print and television (often known as the ‘Drive-By Media’ or the ‘Drive-Bys’), are nothing more than propaganda shills for the DNC. Below are a few excerpts from a FReeper forum (Free Republic forum) that illustrates one of the ways in which the shilling is perpetrated. These stunts are commonly applied by the Drive-Bys.

BTW, I’m YHAOS in the FReeper narrative below. Not that it matters, one way or the other.

WASHINGTON - A North Carolina waitress on Saturday lauded the Democratic-initiated increase in the minimum wage, saying in the party's weekly radio address that the extra money will have a ripple effect on millions of lives.

"I'm grateful that our Democratic leaders in Congress are taking our country in a new direction," she said. "They have accomplished more this year than Republicans accomplished in the past six years combined - including giving people like me a long-overdue raise."

Federal minimum wage to rise on Tuesday
Fast-food waitress Fawn Townsend

"My goal personally is to get a vehicle so I can independently go back and forth to work and maybe pick up extra work so I can have that extra income, because minimum wage is not cutting it," said Townsend, who is 24 and single.

She also seems confused. Does she want a car, another job or to go to Nursing School??

As a former restaurateur, I know for a fact the minimum wage for tipped employees used to be $2.13/hr. This is because tips are considered by the law as part of the basic wage. As far as I am aware, this exception has not changed.

If this woman is in fact a tipped waitress, she is either incredibly stupid or she is lying.

To begin with, she didn’t benefit from the wage increase because she didn’t receive one. In fact, she is about to lose money. She will now be required to meet a greater minimum the IRS will demand from all tipped employees to cover the difference in the old and new minimum wage. In short, she will or has already experience a reduction in her disposable income if no other variables in her work life change.

Once again, the Democratic Party and their sycophants in the MSM are trying to con America and this little lady is either easily led or she is part of the conspiracy.

”If this woman is in fact a tipped waitress, she is either incredibly stupid or she is lying.”

According to Condor51’s research (msg #33), we have to believe Ms Townsend is lying. She was mentioned in a USA Today article less than a month ago. It might be enlightening to contact the editors and writers of these two articles and ask them who it was that referred them to Ms Townsend as possibly a good source for a politically slanted story on the minimum wage. A local union hall perhaps, or a local Democrat contact, or one or another of any number of advocacy groups? Or maybe one of those worthies contacted the ‘reporters’ on their own, and the ‘reporters’ were only too happy to oblige. (Don’t hold your breath waiting for a ring-back on your call).

Nice work, Condor51.

. . . . . end of excerpt . . . . .

The North Carolina fast-food waitress Fawn Townsend is a Democrat ringer.

from Google:

Fawn Townsend, a waitress and minimum wage earner from Raleigh, North Carolina, will deliver the Democratic radio address this Saturday, August 18, 2007.

Plugger (Australian Business News wire service)

“Get the latest news about Fawn Townsend sent to you each day”

(this is a phony come-on ‘Net pitch. Fawn has had her fifteen minutes of fame unless the Drive-Bys need her and think they can, once again, get away with palming her off as your quintessential ‘man-in-the-street’).

"On July 13th, North Carolina enacted a $1 increase in the minimum wage, so that it will reach $6.15 an hour by January, 2007. The raise will affect 139,000 workers. “Finally, North Carolina workers get the raise they deserve. People all over the state are struggling to get by and this is just the first step to making sure that people are paid a fair wage for their work,” said ACORN member Fawn Townsend. North Carolina ACORN is a founding member of North Carolinians for a Fair Wage, which includes Common Sense Foundation, Institute for Southern Studies, NAACP, NC-AFL-CIO, NC Council of Churches, NC Fair Share, NC Justice Center, Southerners for Economic Justice, and Working Families Win."

ACORN News (shades of the old IWW)

This is a standard practice of the Drive-Bys when they want to push an agenda-driven story-line. The journalist in question (or his editor) will contact an advocacy group, or a Democrat organization, asking for the name of a contact who they can quote and represent as just one of the ordinary working stiffs from the ranks of the common people. Often they won’t even have to ask for a name. They will already know someone who can fill in admirably as ‘the-man-in-the-street.’
