The Debate Debate

As typifies a candidate behind the polls, John Kerry wants a debate with President Bush every fifteen minutes. Thus far Bush-Cheney haven’t begun negotiations with the self-appointed Presidential Debate Commission, much less Lurch’s overpopulated operation. Reportedly the President is amenable to a couple of debates, but is prudently taking a long look at a proposed third encounter in St. Louis on October 8th that would have a “question and answer” format that would be ripe for a Big Media/Dem-orchestrated setup.

I remember well the kerfuffle over debates in the 2000 race. How Democrats ridiculed Bush as being “chicken” when he didn’t immediately agree to all Democrat and “Commission” debate stipulations, and guffawed that he was “bowing to the inevitable” when he reached the agreement he sought all along, and were dead-certain he was going to be humiliated by the “more intelligent, more experienced” Al Gore.

Didn’t quite work out that way, did it?

I’d just remind the frothing jackass hordes that when Bill Clinton was running for re-election, he only gave Bob Dole two debates. So it’s safe to say that Mr. French isn’t “owed” any more than that.
