Apologizing for the Wrong Filibusters

Yesterday the Senate issued a formal apology for past wrong-headed filibusters. Unfortunately, the filibusters for which they apologized were carried out before most of the current solons were even born, much less in the Upper Chamber (although Sheets Byrd was definitely with the repeated stiffing of anti-lynching legislation in spirit). Which makes this apology for things they never did a piece of empty moral grandstanding so egregious as to warrant an apology in its own right.

Cap'n Ed has a thorough analysis, including dissection of the usual Grey Lady slant. All I would add is that I could and would have applauded if the minority had apologized for its own filibustering of the last few years, which has been every bit as obnoxious and reprehensible, and extra-constitutional to boot.

I guess we'll have to wait another fifty years for that posthumous group mea culpa.
