Mt. St. Helens Syndrome
(A) Know this first of all, that (B) in the last days (C) mockers will come with their mocking, (D) following after their own lusts, 4 and saying, "(E) Where is the promise of His (F) coming? For ever since the fathers (G) fell asleep, all continues just as it was (H) from the beginning of creation."
For when they maintain this, it escapes their notice that (I) by the word of God the heavens existed long ago and Earth was (J) formed out of water and by water, 6 through which (K) the world at that time was (L) destroyed, being flooded with water.
But by His word (M) the present heavens and Earth are being reserved for (N) fire, kept for (O) the day of judgment and destruction of ungodly men.
But do not let this one fact escape your notice, (P) beloved, that with the LORD one day is like a thousand years, and (Q) a thousand years like one day.
(R) The LORD is not slow about His promise, as some count slowness, but (S) is patient toward you, (T) not wishing for any to perish but for all to come to repentance.
But (U) the day of the LORD (V) will come like a thief, in which (W) the heavens (X) will pass away with a roar and the (Y) elements will be destroyed with intense heat, and (Z) Earth and its works will be [a] burned up.
Since all these things are to be destroyed in this way, what sort of people ought you to be in holy conduct and godliness, 12 (AA) looking for and hastening the coming of the day of God, because of which (AB) the heavens will be destroyed by burning, and the (AC) elements will melt with intense heat!
But according to His (AD) promise we are looking for (AE) new heavens and a new Earth, (AF) in which righteousness dwells.
(AG) Therefore, (AH) beloved, since you look for these things, be diligent to be (AI) found by Him in peace, (AJ) spotless and blameless, 15 and regard the (AK) patience of our LORD as salvation; just as also (AL) our beloved brother Paul, (AM) according to the wisdom given him, wrote to you....
