A Little Enemy Reminder

[posted by Kay Ryan]

I have dreaded this scenario since the first televised beheading. The earlier group of soldiers were taken in Iraq before the insurgency was radicalized by Zarqawi. It figures that since Zarqawi was squashed by two 500-lb bombs last week, his cohorts would be looking for revenge.

The prize: The capture of US GI's is more demoralizing than the lethal suicide blasts & IEDs against Iraqi civilians. If they were taken alive, sadly there's little hope for their safe return. This is one incidence when death would be better than the torture any American serviceman would suffer at the hands of these inhumane barbarians.

After all the hand wringing about the adolescent nudie pyramid at Abu Ghraib, I fear that naive Americans will see first hand how illegal combatants treat THEIR prisoners?

UPDATE: The bodies of the two soldiers were discovered last night. The dump site was boobie trapped to kill more US soldiers.

At first, no confirmation of ID came from the Military. That leads of course to thoughts of the horrible torture or perhaps post mortem mutilation that these two 23-year-old PFCs suffered. The best case scenario is that the two soldiers were killed at the check point and their dead bodies carted off to be defiled and recycled into IEDs. You can bet if Zarqawi were still alive, he'd squeeze every drop of blood out of the Americans and do it in prime time.

The autopsy will pin down the exact cause of death. Until then, most of the reporting is speculation.

UPDATE II: It's clear now that the two young soldiers were tortured brutally before they were killed. Slit throats, probably beheaded and surrounded by IEDs that had to be dismantled before the bodies could be recovered. DNA tests were necessary to positively ID the remains.

The families heard about the slaughter of their sons from the media. Due to lack of familiarity with the proper US protocol, the Iraqi authorities released the information to the press before the families were informed by the military. It was not intentional but nonetheless horribly hurtful to the loved ones.

I've been appalled by the hypocritical rhetoric spewed by the Dems regarding our troops. "We support our troops," "we are NOT unpatriotic," they squeal. But THEY are so quick to condemn US soldiers for wrongdoing and atrocities before they're even charged. Murtha upon hearing about Haditha said the soldiers killed women and children "in cold blood." I guess if you wear a uniform you're guilty.

Today the opposition's response to these savage murders is astounding. Anti-war critics claim a moral equivalence between the actions of US Forces and the conduct of terrorists. Liberal blogger, Jeralyn Merritt epitomizes the left wing's convoluted definition of what support of our troops means to them:

It's hard to express the sinking feeling this news brings. What can you say to the families of these young men to help reduce their grief? When does it end? Torture is disgraceful. But the US does not have clean hands.

The US forces never kidnapped, beheaded, slit throats, or mutilated bodies. How can they compare Gitmo comfort complaints to the barbaric butchering of US soldiers or the prime time beheadings of journalists and civilians? Live in prime time!!

Is the capture, torture and murder of PFCs Tucker and Menchaca a new tactic conjured by al Qaeda in the wake of Zarqawi's death, to throw US forces off balance or was it a fluke?
