Lieberman Drubbing Lamont

This just tickles me to death.

A new Public Opinion Strategies (R) poll finds Ned Lamont (D) trailing Senator Joe Lieberman (I), 51% to 35%, in the Connecticut U.S. Senate race. Republican Alan Schlesinger receives 4% of the vote, while 10% remain undecided. Key finding: When asked which candidate is running a negative campaign, 40% say Lamont compared to 19% for Lieberman.

Yeah, I know Lieberman's a dyed in the wool liberal and other than the war he's a reliable lefty vote, but first off he's a lot better than Lamont (who wouldn't be?), and secondly I think it's hilarious that the Nutroot Kooks on the Left thought they had won a huge victory and were so smug about it, and now instead of an almost certain Democrat seat in the Senate, it'll be an Independent seat. Serves 'em right.

JASmius adds: It's even worse than that. So desperate has Lamont become that he is actually starting to court {drumroll} Republican voters - you know, the ones that polls show are going three to one for Lieberman:

Ned Lamont, the surprise winner of Connecticut's Democratic primary, said Wednesday he will reach out to moderates and even Republicans as he seeks to broaden his appeal.

"Amongst moderates and Republicans, I've got to get more in front of them and introduce myself, because they didn't have a chance to pay as much attention to the race," said Lamont, the anti-war challenger who last month seized the Democratic nomination from three-term Senator Joe Lieberman.
Oh, they were paying attention, alright. As much howling rucus as the Nutroots made crowing over Lamont's pyrrhic Donk primary victory, even the dead - a key Dem constituency - couldn't help but notice. Why else is Lamont in such a hole that he has to repackage himself for voters that are scared to death of him?

After that display of galloping extremism, is the Connecticut Dem senatorial nominee really so deluded as to believe that it is even possible for him to "broaden his appeal"? And if he was sincere, would his neoBolshevik backers even allow it? Could another left-wing hurricane of raging, wounded zealotry be on the way?
