Nothing There But A Scream
Is Howard Dean a failure already as Chairman of the Democrat National Committee?
It's all a question of what you think the job of a party chairman entails.
The Clintons thought the purpose of the DNC Chair was Chief Fundraiser. And Terry McAuliffe did raise a ton of cash for the Democrat Party. But he was an awful public face of it, and all that coin never translated into electoral ground regained, or even maintained.
The loony left thought the purpose of the DNC Chair was Shadow President. Or at least that's the purpose to which they wanted the job redirected. Regardless, that's why they ramrodded the square Dean peg into that round hole. End result? An even worse public face of the party and fundraising numbers to match.
I'd wager there are a growing number of Donks who privately pine for the halycon McAuliffe years (the Clinton years, really, though one wonders if even Hillary will be able to salvage things after four more years of this nonsense) who never in a zillion years thought they'd be doing so. But they have nobody but themselves to blame. Until they can somehow manage to exorcise that siege mentality out of their collective psyche, Democrats are going to continue to soil themselves, step on an endless series of rakes, and otherwise put on an open-ended political Vaudeville act.
In the mean time, they have a party chairman who is most definitely an accurate reflection of the base he represents.
