Did we just barely avert the Tet of the GWOT? How many American lives were saved by Iraqi intrepidity in unraveling this terrorist plot in the nick of time beyond those in our Baghdad embassy itself? Wouldn't another embassy hostage crisis have been the most excruciating irony imaginable?
And what other plots are in the offing, undoubtedly sponsored and perhaps also masterminded by the large, fanatical enemy regime just next door?

UPDATE: Anchoress has links to several reports of al Qaeda "chatter" being up to pre-9/11 levels, including one that speaks of a "devastating" two-phase attack. Could the aforementioned near-miss have been one of them?
