The Horror, Indeed

Last Tuesday the American people turned over control of the Legislative Branch of government to people who think this about the neoPersian Empire - um, that is, the Islamic Republic of Iran - which has been at war with the United States for the past twenty-seven years, is led by a theocratic apocalypticist who is on the brink (or over it) of possessing nuclear weapons, and now will be given free rein to commit genocide, bring America to its knees, and otherwise plunge the world into twelfth-imam-summoning chaos.

But at least the Republicans were "taught a lesson", right?

UPDATE: Well, okay, the mullahs pretty much already had free rein to do all of the above. But now there isn't even the lingering, back-of-the-mind doubt that George W. Bush might possibly still resort to military action. Once we bug out of our bases in Iraq, Kuwait, Qatar, etc., and Iranian influence replaces ours, preventing the escalation of World War IV will become a practical impossibility.

But at least the Democrats will do away with earmarks and pork barrel spending, right?

UPDATE II: Wow, looks like the "lesson" didn't take. So don't tell me, let me guess: we'll just have to teach the GOP an even BIGGER lesson next time by expanding the Donk majorities and throwing away the White House too! And if the Republicans STILL don't learn their lesson, I know, we'll just disband the party altogether! Yeah, THAT'll teach 'em!

And Cap'n Ed calls retaining the current House GOP leadership "insanity"?

Hey, Boehner and Blunt aren't my first choice by any means. I'd love to see Mike Pence and his RSC crew take over entirely. But this runaway Polish firing squad is the true madness. We will do ourselves no favors until we stop eating our own and get back to directing our fire at the enemy.

And yes, I'm referring to the Democrats.

That's the true lesson of last Tuesday. Pity so few on our side of the aisle are paying attention.

UPDATE III: That would seem to include one Michael Ledeen, who had this to say, in part, in support of Brother Hinderaker's Jeremaic lamentation of the Bushies' "new direction" on Iraq:

I entirely agree that it would be utter, disgusting folly to try to sell the American public on the theory that we could negotiate anything decent with the mullahs....To suggest such a thing is politically stupid, as well, if I understand Americans at all; I don't think there's a big constituency out there for making nice to the heirs of the Ayatollah Khomeini.

I guess Mr. Ledeen really doesn't understand Americans at all, because that's how a majority of them voted last Tuesday. Either that or they really didn't know any better, which would make them....well, stupid.

It'll also make quite a few of them dead before too long. I could make a Darwinian comment about "culling the herd," but we've got years and years (depending upon which American cities are targeted first, and whether the reimposition of the "Fairness Doctrine" beats the mullahs to the punch) to grind up these numbnuts; no sense not pacing ourselves.

UPDATE IV: Jules Crittendon and Neal Boortz join the Vast Right-Wing Insurgency.
