Gonna Be A Long Two Years...

Well, this didn't take long:

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Senate Majority Leader Harry M. Reid declared yesterday that "it is time to bring the war to a close" and warned President Bush that sending more U.S. troops to Iraq would be unacceptable to the Democratic majorities that have just taken over Congress.

Directly challenging Bush's wartime leadership on their second day in charge on Capitol Hill, Democrats Pelosi (CA) and Reid (NV) sent Bush a letter suggesting that, instead of starting a short-term escalation, he begin a phased withdrawal of U.S. forces in the next four to six months. The mission of remaining troops, they said, should be shifted away from combat toward more training, logistics and counterterrorism.

These two are such dim bulbs. You don't just "bring the war to a close." You WIN. All of their flowery, pseudointellectual words boil down to one thing: Cut and Run. DEFEAT for America. They want to pin that around Bush's neck for the rest of his life, LOSING the war in Iraq. I have absolutely no doubt that is their goal, to hell with the nation's best interest.

Then there's this idiot:

"I don't know if Mr. Bush even believes in this so-called surge," scoffed Representative Neil Abercrombie (D-HI), another member of the committee. "The neocons are trying to test the new Congress to see how we respond."

No, Mr. Abercrombie, it is the Democrats who use soldiers as pawns in their games, not Republicans, and certainly not President Bush.

"Our purpose is not to revisit the past," said Chairman Joseph R. Biden Jr. (D-DE), "but to help build a consensus behind a new course for America in Iraq."

BULLCRAP. Your goal is for America to LOSE.

JASmius adds: Not to get pedantic, but what else did anybody expect from these people? For five years they've been demanding national dhimmitude. And for the first three of those years, the voters recognized that lunacy for what it was. Two months ago they embraced it instead. And looky what we hear the lunatics say on day one of the new dark age on Capitol Hill - exactly the same seditious doggerrell they've been spewing damn near since the towers fell. And the rest of us are simply supposed to get out of the way and do their despicable bidding, because as we're all supposed to know, any election the Donks win settles all issues once and for all.

My guess is this letter is part of the Dems' impeachment strategy, eschewment of which on the President's part will be declared a "high crime and misdemeanor" because, as we're all supposed to know, any branch of government not under Democrat control is subordinate to any branch of government under Democrat control. So if Bush doesn't follow the orders of Crazy Nancy and Dirty Harry, abandon Iraq and quit the WAIF, they'll bust him on insubordination charges. And his Sith puppetmaster veep as well.

Will Dubya bow down to the "Queen Bee" and Senator Pencil-Neck? The "New Tone" would seem to demand it. But even if he doesn't, the Donks can, and will, simply defund the war like they cut off South Vietnam in early 1975, despite the protestations of then-President Gerald Ford, whose supposed criticism of Operation Iraqi Freedom was the only good word these jihadi-symp bastards had for the dearly departed. And after that supreme act of national suicide brings the war we can't escape home again, perhaps the voters will remember why they rejected these lunatics for over a decade.

Or not. Stockholm Syndrome can be self-imposed, after all. And we've elected just the party that can pull it off.
