Another "D-oh" Moment
It occurred to me too late that tonight's Republican presidential primary debate would have been a splendid opportunity to debut Hard Starboard Radio eleven days earlier - a sort of verbal live-blog, as it were.
Ah well, I did say that I'm a deep thinker but not a quick one. Maybe at the next debate I'll be part of the team.
UPDATE: If I may summarize my take....
***Tommy Thompson looked like a ventriloquist's dummy. Somebody's going to have to pick him up and put him back in his box when the debate is over.
***What the bleep is Ron Paul doing on that stage? Other than feeding Giuliani big, fat, over-the-plate meatballs. (i.e. "We brought 9/11 on ourselves". If Rudy hadn't been on the opposite side of the stage, he might have taken a swing at him.)
***McCain also helped rehabilitate Rudy with his smarmy "torture" answer. It completely undermines his credibility on the war to demand that we fight an intelligence-centered conflict bound and gagged. Demanding the end but denying the means.
***None of the other candidates matter. Not a comment on this debate, or a knock on the also-rans (Okay, Ron Paul is fair game...); just a fact.
***In fact, McCain doesn't matter, either. Rudy gained the most from tonight's installment, but his social issues stance will be fatal to his chances. That leaves Romney, more or less by default. Which is pretty much how I've seen this field from the start. [Double-H and Brother Meringoff agree - more or less]
Now when Fred Thompson gets in, that's when the real business will pick up.
UPDATE II: Mr. Slate from the Flintstones, THAT's who Governor Thompson reminded me of....
UPDATE III: The team has signed me as a free agent. Man, am I glad I didn't have Scott Boras for my agent....
