In Other News...

Sir Elton John wants to close down the internet.

It's too bad this guy is such a fruitcake. He sure has written some good music.

JASmius adds: The original Rocketman appears to be a little skittish about his continued livelihood:

“The internet has stopped people from going out and being with each other,
creating stuff.

“Instead they sit at home and make their own records, which is sometimes OK
but it doesn’t bode well for long-term artistic vision."

Or people buying his CDs instead of downloading pirated copies for free.

From there his rambling becomes "progressively" disjointed:

“It’s just a means to an end.

“We’re talking about things that are going to change the world and change the way people listen to music and that’s not going to happen with people blogging on the internet.

“I mean, get out there — communicate."
The Internet is the biggest boon to instant global communication mankind has ever seen. Ditto changing the way people listen to music. That's why record companies, and "artistes" like EJ, are so determined to regain the control over their product that they used to have, and never will again.

“Hopefully the next movement in music will tear down the internet."
Wow, there's my Geico caveman moment for the morning.

“Let’s get out in the streets and march and protest instead of sitting at home and blogging.

“I do think it would be an incredible experiment to shut down the whole internet for five years and see what sort of art is produced over that span."
Spoken like a true '60s liberal. Will twenty-first century liberals like the Kos-hacks and DUmmies take kindly to that?

And then we come to the core revelation:

“There’s too much technology available...."

Multi-millionaire Elton, who turned sixty earlier this year, has admitted in the past that he is a bit behind the times. The Grammy award-winner was once quoted as saying: “I am the biggest technophobe of all time.

“I don’t have a mobile phone or an iPod or anything.

“I am such a Luddite when it comes to making music. All I can do is write at the piano.”

So if Elton John doesn't like something, it should be abolished.

Isn't left-wing tolerance inspiring?
