Wolves

Watch this Bush ad here. It's reminiscent of the Reagan "bear in the woods" ad from 1984. Its imagery is absolutely chilling. And it is running in battleground states throughout Election Day.

If a majority of Americans can vote for John Kerry after 9/11, this campaign, and seeing this ad, the Republic is already lost.

UPDATE: It's official - "wolves" is devastating. Just check out the Kerry/DNC reaction to it (courtesy KerrySpot).

DNC AD: "The eagle sours high above the earth; the ostrich buries its head in the sand. The eagle knows when it's time to change course; the ostrich just stands in its place. Given these challenging times, shouldn't we be the eagle again?"

John Edwards' response to the "Wolves" ad? "They've stooped so low, now they're using a pack of wolves… This President is continuing to try to scare the American people in his speeches and ads in a despicable and contemptible way."

Um, Opie, can you say "Bush is bringing back the draft"? Can you say "Bush is going to cut Social Security in half"? Can you say "Bush wants Parkinsons and Altzheimers sufferers and paralytics to die rather than 'lift his ban' on stem cell research"?

At least they have a well-developed sense of irony, even if they are oblivious to it. How a campaign whose candidate wants to "get back to when terrorism was regarded as a 'nuisance'" can wittingly invoke the imagery of an "ostrich" raises doubts about whether half of them even remember to put on their pants in the morning before leaving for work.

UPDATE UPDATE: Looks like they might be sparing themselves this particular embarrassment.
