Attack of the Killer Tomato?

If a "vegetable" can recover full or even partially "possession of her faculties, physical and mental," who has reason to "be afraid, VERY afraid"?

A prominent brain specialist believes that Terri Schiavo can recover with proper treatment.

Dr. William Hammesfahr, nominated for a Nobel Prize for his work in medicine, told the Christian Wire Service that he "and others I know have treated many patients worse than Terri, and have seen them regain independence and dignity."

Dr. Hammesfahr said he has examined Terri Schiavo three separate times for a total of over 10 hours.

"There are many approaches that would help Terri Schiavo. I know, because I had the opportunity to personally examine her, her medical records, and her X-rays."

The doctor has helped patients with chronic brain injuries - including hypoxic encephalopathy, Schiavo's injury - recover. Judge Susan Kirkland of the Florida Department of Health said that he was "the first physician to restore deficits caused by stroke."

Dr. Hammesfahr was nominated for the Nobel Prize in Medicine and Physiology in 1999. In 2000, his work resulted in approval for the first patent in history granted for the treatment of neurological diseases with medications that restore blood flow to
the brain.

"It's time to help Terri instead of just warehousing her," Dr. Hammesfahr said. "She would have benefited from treatment years ago, but it is not too late to start now."

Why is Dr. Hammesfahr’s opinion – to say nothing of those of dozens of other neurologists – blanketly ignored in favor of the “she’s a potted plant” conclusion of Michael Schiavo’s star “expert” witness, Dr. Ronald Cranford, who is a notorious euthanasian?

Will this litany provide a hint?

In published articles, including a 1997 op-ed in the Minneapolis–St. Paul Star Tribune, he has advocated the starvation of Alzheimer’s patients. He has described PVS patients as indistinguishable from other forms of animal life. He has said that PVS patients and others with brain impairment lack personhood and should have no constitutional rights. Perusing the case literature and articles surrounding the “right to die” and PVS, one will see Dr. Cranford’s name surface again and again. In almost every case, he is the one claiming PVS, and advocating the cessation of nutrition and
hydration.
Terri Schiavo is not an eggplant. She’s a living, breathing, semi-sentient human being who can recover from her injury. But she’s shriveling to oblivion because her scumbag husband wants her dead. And now judges both in Florida and at the federal level have become his accomplices.

If this act is allowed to stand and become precedent, all of our lives will become the property of the robed oligarchy. And American representative democracy will effectively die as well.
