What's Zarqawi Trying To Hide?

Remember the old adage, "Don't look at what they say, look at what they do"? That, I think, has definite relevance to this following tidbit.

Terrorists dispatched by al-Qaida ringleader Abu Musab al Zarqawi attacked Iraq Survey Group chief Charles Duelfer and killed two of his bodyguards, Duelfer tells U.K.'s Independent newspaper.

"A car bomb tried to get me and my follow car," Duelfer revealed Thursday. "Two of my guards were killed and one was badly wounded."

This wasn't just a off-hand comment made in passing, either:

In an addendum to his report on Iraq's weapons of mass destruction that was released this week, Duelfer notes:

"The Iraq Survey Group lost two more brave individuals in a suicide car bomb attack. SFC Clinton Wisdom and SPC Don Clary were killed, and SPC Nathan Gray was seriously wounded while providing security for a convoy transporting ISG members to Baghdad."

Now here is where it starts getting interesting:

Duelfer cited the attack as the key reason why he had to suspend his weapons search prematurely, saying that the "ISG developed an investigation plan that may be pursued when the security situation improves."
Now why would bin Laden's "emir of Iraq" want to interfere with Mr. Duelfer's WMD search, hmmm?

News that Zarqawi had targeted Duelfer fueled speculation that the top terrorist feared the ISG group might yet uncover evidence that Iraq had WMDs, since Duelfer's findings to date have only bolstered claims that the U.S. was wrong to conclude that Saddam had stockpiles of unconventional weapons. [my emphasis]

Either Zarqawi and bin Laden know where Saddam's WMDs went, or they believe he had them and that Duelfer was "getting warm," or else they've got something similar to hide themselves that they don't want him discovering.

Regardless, it piles one more uncomfortable question atop the towering pile that Bushophobes and seditious appeaseniks are going to have an ever more difficult time continuing to duck.
