Kennedy vs. Limbaugh

[posted by Rich]

Well, [Rhode Island congressman Patrick] Kennedy (interesting how many of the Kennedy's have alcohol/drug/crime/behavior problems) now "admits" he has a "problem" and is seeking help. Good for him.

Now, will the liberals give the same to Rush Limbaugh who also sought help? Nah, don't bet on it. Different standards for conservatives than for liberals.

JASmius adds: Reading of a Kennedy driving "irregularly" while under the influence of "substances" hardly qualifies as news. I saw the blurb on the wires, shrugged a "So what else is new?" and surfed on.

I guess you have to have the inspiration to toss off an entertaining post on something like this. And Brother Hinderaker, in a self-professed attempt to be serious about it, had me doubled over this morning with this:

Perversely, perhaps, I want to make a serious comment. Which begins with a quote from a dentist who lived in my home town in South Dakota: "Voting for Democrats is like picking your nose. You like to do it, but you're not proud of it."

Crude, but apt. Why on Earth is a lost, pathetic nonentity like Patrick Kennedy a member of Congress? What possesses people in his Rhode Island district - does he have some connection with Rhode Island? - to vote for him? Can the people of Rhode Island possibly be proud of being represented by a slow-witted, uninformed young man with admitted psychiatric and drug problems? I assume not.

So why is Patrick Kennedy a Congressman? And why on Earth can't the presumably-sane people who live in his district vote him out?

Imagine if Rocketman had been attempting to be humorous. But then you know the first rule of comedy: it's only funny when it's true.
