Yeah, but...

Don't ya hate it when someone starts out a reply with, "Yeah, but...?" It's like they didn't even hear what you said, but were just waiting until you took a breath to jump in.

That's not the case here, JASmius, I promise! I'm actually in agreement with you. Personally, I'd love it if there were a viable way to deport every last illegal here, build the blasted wall all the way across, and stop ALL immigration for a year or so, just until we get our breath. Is that gonna happen? Nope. Not even anything close. I'm actually very happy that the wall is going to be built, it seems to me we're making some progress. Do you think Bush knew this would happen? He definitely has the debate going, wouldn't you say?

Sure I understand that many are disappointed, but I do believe that we are going to go in the right direction on immigration, and I think that is Bush's intention. Don't misunderestimate him.

JASmius adds: I think if Bush had explicitly called for a fence, he would now be basking in the prestige of the Senate having responded overwhelmingly in the affirmative. Instead he stuck with the milquetoast "comprehensive" proposal, and the Sessions amendment bypassed him.

It's like I said the other day: the President has been coasting for a long time on the fumes of his post-9/11 leadership. Those fumes effectively ran out in the Hurricane Katrina aftermath, and aside from the Alito SCOTUS nomination and stout defense of the NSA terrorist surveillance program, GDub is like a pitcher who's lost his stuff and doesn't look at all interested in getting it back.
