A Day Of Rest
That is supposed to be Sunday, by reputation. On the other hand, the Old Testament places that on Saturday, which just also happens to be today. Either way, it wasn't on this Saturday, as I had work spill over from yesterday that I actually had to take with me. Yes, at the age of (almost) forty-two I actually had homework.
This is, as I am now freshly reminded, why I don't like to take extended vacation time. After a few days back in the office, I'm more in need of vacation than I was before my vacation. Some things can be delegated, but not all of them. When I got back last Thursday, I had four days worth of work to get done in two. And then there was this week, a closing week, the busiest week of each four-week period, which just happened to coincide with the Labor Day holiday, giving me the equivalent of six days' worth of work to complete in only four.
I suppose you could say it'd have been worth it if the vacation time had actually been, you know, a vacation. Instead, I spend all but the equivalent of one day occupied by, at one time or another, three activities that were intensely stressful: travel (to visit my folks on their golden anniversary), a special work SNAFU that required a lot of time on the phone from home, and the extended repairs on my home PC, followed by having to set the whole damn thing up again once I finally did get it home. Only my last day off could come close to barely qualifying as leisurely. And then it was once more into the breach dear friends, and, unsurprisingly, this was another monster current events week that I hadn't a prayer of keeping up with here. Kind of the opposite problem that Rush Limbaugh has, come to think of it. But then current events commentary is what he actually gets paid for. Almost makes me wonder if finance and accounting are his hobbies.
At any rate, that is my alibi for being offline all day. If you don't find it sufficient, feel free to suggest a better one in the comments. If the entries are entertaining enough, I'll try to come up with a pic to which to attach them as captions.
There's a contest Cap'n Ed has never done.
