The Lawyer Stage

Clinton's lawyers have demanded that ABC pull The Path to 9-11.

On Friday evening, Bill Clinton's lawyers sent a new letter to ABC chief Bob Iger demanding that ABC yank The Path to 9/11. We've obtained a copy of the letter, and it reads in part:

"As a nation, we need to be focused on preventing another attack, not fictionalizing the last one for television ratings. The Path to 9/11 not only tarnishes the work of the 9/11 Commission, but also cheapens the fith anniversary of what was a very painful moment in history for all Americans. We expect that you will make the responsible decision to not air this film."

What about Fahrenheit 9-11, guys? Where were you then? Huh?

Full text of the threatening letter here.

JASmius adds: This is rich. The Path To 9/11 was based on the 9/11 Commission's findings. That's like saying the Gospels tarnish the work of Jesus Christ. Come to think of it, that would put Sick Willie and his ambulance-chasers in the role of Dan Brown and his execrable The Da Vinci Code. How's that for good casting?

Not that the 9/11 Commission's findings are gospel, you understand - there were Democrats on that panel, including the Clintonoid architect of the "wall of separation" between the FBI and CIA, Jamie Gorelick herself, who did their rabid best to completely exonerate Mr. Bill's eight years of dereliction and hang the entire blame for 9/11 on George Bush's first eight months. But even in this sense The Path To 9/11 comes off as non-, or bi-, partisan.

The Clinton machine's conniptions are all bluff and bluster. There's nothing actionable in or about the ABC mini-series that is supposed to air Sunday night. To assert otherwise is to attempt to discredit the very same 9/11 Commission whose findings Democrats to this day excoriate the Bush Administration for not accepting and blanketly, blindly implementing in toto as if they were....well, gospel.

But then, the man from Grope isn't throwing this tantrum for his party's sake, but that of his "legacy." Quite simply, Clinton's enormous ego cannot abide any depiction of any aspect of his presidency that comes within a country mile of being factual, because for such a depiction to actually make air would expose his corrupt, perverted, misbegotten regime as the comprehensive disaster it truly was, and nowhere moreso than in his utter failure to avert a rising national security threat that has cost the lives of thousands of American civilians.

It is, in other words, still all about him, even though The Path To 9/11 is, as Hugh Hewitt dutifully points out, far more about the enemy and the murderous Islamic theology that implacably motivates them. And as was their '90s want, the Donks are dutifully falling into line behind their once and (they hope) future imperial consort because they'll suffer the blowback at the polls two months from now. Talk about misguided brand loyalty.

If ABC is the slightest bit concerned about the tattered credibility of their own brand, they'd be well advised to recognize where their own interests lie - and that they do not coincide with bowing to totalitarianist censorship, and thus perpetuating the lies of the Clinton Hedony.

UPDATE: Does this remind you of John Kerry's reaction to the documentary Stolen Honor? Man, at least Lurch was actually on the ballot when he went Gestapo....

UPDATE II: Has anybody else noticed that the older Bill Clinton gets, the more like W.C. Fields he looks?

Of course, he's smelled like Fields for years....
