Libby's Jail Sentence Commuted

It's not a pardon, and he left the quarter-million dollar fine and felony record intact, but President Bush has at least restored some measure of consolatory justice to this whole miserable, outrageous "Plamegate" witchhunt. Especially since he was the one that set it off in the first place.

Dunno if it will "contribute, to some degree, to a restoration of Bush's standing with conservatives," as Brother Hinderaker speculates. I think that train pulled out of the station with the attempted shamnesty jam-down. But it's guaranteed to send the Left into paroxysms of fresh Bushophobic rage. And whenever libs are angry, whatever causes it must be the right thing to do.

UPDATE: Here they come. Batting leadoff, New York Democrat senior Senator Chucky Schumer:

As Independence Day nears, we're reminded that one of the principles our forefathers fought for was equal justice under the law. This commutation completely tramples on that principle.

This would be the same Chucky Schumer who had no problem at all calling for clemency for Jonathan Pollard, a convicted spy....:

....if three conditions are met: ‘no danger is posed to society, real contrition is shown and the sentence is disproportionate to others who have committed similar crimes.’”

All three apply in gobs to Scooter Libby. Besides, the conviction and other penalties are still intact. Isn't that what really matters to the Dems? A conviction of a Bushie on ANYthing to serve as a tabula rasa for their imaginary neocon conspiracy to "punish" the Wilsons for "exposing" the Bush "plot" to "lie the country into war"? Griping about Libby's life not be completely destroyed is beyond pettily vindictive.

Crazy Nancy is as big a hypocrite as Chucky, only her past love for clemency attached to Bill Clinton's for a Puerto Rican terrorist.

The New York Times and the Huff 'n Puffers are peeved. While the DUmmies are in dire need of several thousand strait jackets and padded cells.

And after the flurry of last-minute pardons of crooks, grifters, and terrorists that her husband tossed around, to say nothing of having equated Republicans to "terrorists" today in Iowa, I really think Hillary Clinton needs to just shut the hell up.

Reminds me of the Ron White line from his "Drunk...In...Public" album: "I had the right to remain silent....but I didn't have the ability."
