Assassination As Comic Relief

A press release from http://www.catholicleague.org:

Catholic League president William Donohue commented today on the remarks made about President George W. Bush that are featured on the website of Catholics for Kerry 04:

“The home page of Catholics for Kerry 04 prominently lists comments by Wayne Madsden, who says, ‘George W. Bush’s blood lust, his repeated commitment to Christian beliefs and his constant references to ‘evil doers,’ in the eyes of many devout Catholic leaders, bear all the hallmarks of the one warned about in the Book of Revelations—the anti-Christ.’ He also charges that Bush ‘couples his political fanaticism with a neo-Christian blood cult.’

“This is the language of a demagogue, and it has no legitimate role to play in presidential politics. It is important to note that it is not the position of the Catholic League that the Kerry camp should be held responsible for this group of wacko Catholics. But at the same time, it shows how hypocritical the operatives in the Kerry camp really are.

“For example, it is reported by the Associated Press today that Kerry spokesman Chad Clanton is demanding that President Bush ‘condemn’ a book about John Kerry’s alleged fraudulent behavior in Vietnam, Unfit for Command. Why? Simply because one of authors made anti-Catholic remarks in a chat room last year (for which he has apologized).

“Now according to the logic of the Kerry campaign, it would seem only proper that John Kerry should condemn Catholics for Kerry 04: surely the nexus is tighter in this case than in the chat room quip. Indeed, this Catholic-Kerry website provides a direct link to ‘Contribute to Kerry Online,’ the official donation section of the Kerry-Edwards website.

“The subject of religion has been giving Kerry and the Dems fits lately. We hope their recent discovery of anti-Catholicism, however strained, suggests a new beginning. They can start by hiring a new religious outreach person who doesn’t cavort with anti-Catholics.”

And this from http://www.playbill.com:

Assassins may have closed on Broadway, but another show is taking aim at the leader of the free world in the new guerilla comedy I'm Gonna Kill the President! A Federal Offense.”

I can see the “guerilla” part without much difficulty, but not the “comedy.”

“Performances begin at 10 PM at an undisclosed Manhattan location, running Aug. 17-Sept. 4 — including the dates of the Republican National Convention.”

How helpful. Kinda makes you wish you could be there when the Secret Service finds this “undisclosed location” and “has a little talk” with the cast and crew, doesn’t it?

But then there are reportedly “kill Bush” bumper stickers popping up on vehicles all over New York City. Presumably they’d deliberately snarl traffic in order to prevent the Secret Service from getting to this “undisclosed location.”

I don’t know if there’s anybody left who thinks that the terms “Bush hatred” and “Bushophobia” are exaggerations, but these two items would have to finish them off, I would think. It wasn’t bad enough to compare Dubya unfavorably to Adolph Hitler? Now he’s Satan himself? And he should be assassinated, as this play and the new book Checkpoint recommend under the guise of “entertainment”? They actually think this is funny?

It really makes me wonder what the American left’s reaction would be if somebody – a moveon.orger, an al Qaeda terrorist, an Iranian deep-cover agent – did convert their “joshing” into horrifying reality. Would they be shocked? Ashamed? Remorseful? Repentant? Or would they, with grave smugness, say that Bush “brought it on himself” – or even openly rejoice?

The post-9/11 world is a perilous time, and the next few years promise to be even more perilous still. And yet there sits the Democratic Party, blind and deaf but gibbering away insanely, utterly heedless and oblivious to reality, insisting that there’s no threat but George Bush and no greater imperative than the reacquisition of their power with which they will forcibly deport all of us back to their lethal land of make-believe. And if you stand in their way, like the Swiftboat vets, then they’ll ruin you; and if you’re George Bush, you can just die.

People as shallow as these aren’t competent to wield power; people as hateful as these cannot be trusted with it, both for what they would do to their opponents and to the democratic system they no longer trust.

The left as become as dangerous to America as al Qaeda itself. George Bush must be reelected to put a stop to them both.
