Hillary Exploits Tragedy

The Mad Cow is at it again:

2008 presidential candidate Hillary Clinton said Friday she was "outraged" that President Bush hasn't spent more money to beef up security on New York City's mass transit system in the wake of Thursday's train bombings in London."I'm absolutely outraged by the failure of the administration to release the [rail security] funding that Congress approved last year," the top Democrat complained.

Didn’t take her long to exploit the tragedy in London, did it?

Even before the smoke cleared in London, Clinton was on the attack, ripping Bush in a statement posted to her official Senate Web site on Thursday:

"It is imperative that the millions of New Yorkers who travel on trains and buses know that our tunnels and facilities continue to operate with the highest security operations in place. The President’s budget calls for a $50 million cut in funding for rail and transit security this year, which is clearly
a step in the wrong direction."

Classy, right? Fortunately, Michael Chertoff set the record straight:

Homeland Security chief Michael Chertoff fired back at 2008 presidential candidate Hillary Clinton on Friday, saying her claim that President Bush had cut the budget for rail and subway security by $50 million was flat-out wrong.Confronted with Sen. Clinton's criticism by NBC "Today" show host Katie
Couric, Chertoff shot back: "I think that really understates the amount of money in the budget that's available for rail security. In fact, the president's budget talks about a dramatic increase in infrastructure protection, $600 million, and that would be available for rail security."

Actually, Mr. Chertoff, the Wronged One doesn’t care what the amount of money is. She saw an opportunity to rip the President, and took it. Who cares whether her statements are right or wrong? The lemmings in the press will report them as Gospel, and she knows it.

Chertoff goes on:

Chertoff said the Bush budget provides "billions of dollars in urban security initiatives and part of that is available for rail security."

It ain’t enough, Mr. Chertoff. It’ll never be enough, not as long as Hillary can squeeze some talking points out of it.
