The Mime President

Remember the vanished post I angrily lamented last week? Dean Barnett does a pretty good job of channeling my in abstentia stream of consciousness from a few days back, with a couple of omissions.

1) George W. Bush has refused to communicate in general and make the case for the WAIF in particular, both in Iraq and elsewhere, pretty much since 9/11. The al Qaeda strikes made the case for him back then and he rode that wave as far as it would go (i.e. the 2004 election). Thereafter he had to start making the continuing case himself, and he simply did not bother to do it. Now he is politically unable to do it, even if he had the inclination or the skill.

2) Regardless of the extent of his political debilitation, he has to do so anyway, and far beyond Iraq. Hillary Clinton is going to be the next POTUS, and she simply will not fight this war until it is filling our own streets with our own irradiated blood and guts. Far better to sacrifice his own presidency and act while there still might be time than to cast the American public to the four winds - and like number of apocalyptic horsemen.
